Southland Contractors originated in Valdosta, Georgia in 1992 as a spin-off from Seward Daugharty & Company, which began operations in the clearing and grading business in the 1960s. Founded by Seward Daugharty and Frank P. Daugharty, the company was created to provide a higher level of service in civil construction.

In its early years, grading and land clearing were the primary focus. As demand grew, Southland expanded into paving, concrete work, and underground utilities. Today, the company performs projects throughout South Georgia, serving general contractors, municipalities, and private clients.
